THE PERSON BEHIND THE PARTNERSHIP
My Story
Thirty years ago, I walked onto a factory floor with a degree in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics — and no plan to stay. I thought I'd end up somewhere quieter. Instead, I never left.
Thirty years of early mornings, cups of chai with vendors, and learning what it really takes to make something people are proud to bring home. I didn't just work in this industry. I grew up in it.
Then the pandemic arrived, and for the first time in thirty years, the noise around me finally went quiet. I was home — with time, and with my family, who had been gently telling me something for years I was always too busy to hear: that I'd spent thirty years building other people's dreams, and maybe it was time to build my own.
It scared me. Starting over at a point in life when you're told to slow down takes a different kind of courage. But my family believed in me before I believed in myself, and that made all the difference. That is how this venture began.
I named it AboutHome Sourcing, and the name was never really a decision — it just made sense. It began at home, with the people who pushed me, in a year when home was the only place any of us had. And almost everything we make still ends up in someone's home too — a child's room, a living room, a kitchen table. So the name stayed close to where the whole story started.
It has led me somewhere I never expected: into the world of children. Soft toys, little garments, playmats and nursery rugs for afternoons of make-believe, made with a little extra care for small hands. The same care now runs through our home and lifestyle pieces too — rugs, cushions, throws, towels — made well, sourced honestly. Most days, what I really do is mix and match — pulling a thread from one idea, a colour from another, until something new quietly comes together. In a way, I'm still just weaving stories out of thread.
After thirty years of barely leaving the factories I knew, I now travel the world — multiple trade fairs a year, meeting people whose love for their craft needs no translation. But my favourite moments still have nothing to do with fabric. They're the ones spent showing up for people.
This venture is thirty years of love for a craft, one frightening pause that changed everything, and a family who believed in me enough to push me toward something of my own. I hope you feel that, too, in everything we make.
